Modern Art Exhibition at Sinagoga din Cetate / Timișoara by Veronica Taussig
“Roots and Reflections”
The dialogue between Veronica Taussig’s sculptures and architecture of a place is of primary importance to them. Many of these sculptures are based on illusionary play between the empty and the full, the light and the dark, absorbing fragments of the surrounding reality through clearances, skeletal construction or the sculptures’ polished fragments mirroring the light and the colours of the surroundings. By using clear, saturated colours these objects raise the temperature around, they actuate the given place and illuminate the spaces and walls occupied by them with energy.
Veronica Taussig manoeuvres exclusively within a world of abstraction. Her works sometimes appear to be a fleeting record of a moment, a splash of light on the wall, an afterimage emerging with the blink of the eye. Other times they become a fragment of architecture. The artist operates with planes gliding in space, seemingly suspended there on black, nearly invisible structural frames. Here there are many perpendiculars of wavering balance, towers defying the laws of gravity, atectonic constructions and visual puns.
The works of artist Veronica Taussig, produced from polyurethane, lacquered aluminium and steel, are created under the influence of the Constructivist tradition, but they sometimes include amoeboid, almost organic shapes.
The artist Veronica Taussig was born in Timișoara, but emigrated to Austria and now returns to Romania for the first time with her art.
Veronica was close to art her whole life, interested in it, and collected works of contemporary artists, she made her debut as an artist relatively late, when she was in her 60s. She now devotes every spare moment to her own projects. The exhibition at Sinagoga din Cetate is the artist’s fourteenth show, following shows in Prague, Berlin, Vienna, Łódź , Budapest, Warsaw and Saint Petersburg.
